Lost wax carving is a process where pieces are carved from wax, then placed into an investment solution to create a mould. Once the mould is made, molten metal is poured into the mould to create a casting. The casting is then cleaned up and polished to create your finished piece of jewellery.
Hand fabricated jewellery begins with metal wire or sheet. Through the use of cutting, forging, bending and soldering, the metal is hand worked to create the finished piece of jewellery. These creates a much harder piece of jewellery as the metal structures are compressed with each process.
The way a piece is made often comes down to its design requirements. Some pieces require intricate carvings and textures and are best created out of wax, whereas some may require the hardness that hand fabrication facilitates. The technique used is up to the discretion of the jeweller.

Currently, all our diamond pieces can be made in 9ct and 18ct Yellow Gold, Rose Gold and White Gold. Pieces without diamonds are also offered in Sterling Silver.
The use of ‘ct’ refers to caratage. This is the measurement of purity of gold when alloyed with other materials. Pure gold (24ct) is a very soft material, so other metals are added to provide hardness.
9ct Yellow Gold refers to 37.5% of the metal being pure gold. The remaining alloy is 42.5% silver and 20% copper.
18ct Yellow Gold refers to 75% of the metal being pure gold. The remaining alloy is 15% silver and 10% copper.
The main differences that arise between 9ct and 18ct are colour, hardness and durability. For example, 9ct will have a lighter gold appearance where 18ct will have more yellow saturation. 18ct gold is more malleable than 9ct which is what makes it a great metal to use for gemstone settings as it allows claws and bezels to be moved around the stone more easily without breaking. Different pieces suit different metals. Please get in touch with us if you have any questions about choosing a metal carat for your jewellery piece.

Maintaining the integrity of your jewellery is incredibly important to us at ashleighmoore.com so we have posted a care guide here. All pieces purchased online also come with care instructions.
-
With time and wear, your pieces will be exposed to skin oils, dirt, sweat and chemicals. This can build up on your jewellery and cause the metal or stones to lose their sparkle.
We recommend soaking your pieces in a bowl of warm soapy water and using a soft bristle tooth brush to clean the stones and jewellery piece. Wipe dry with a soft cloth to avoid scratching.
We also provide a cleaning service to our clients annually free of charge. Please get in touch if you would like to book in your cleaning service.
-
We wouldn’t want anyone to lose or damage their sentimental piece of jewellery so we highly recommend removing all jewellery before showering or swimming. This is because your pieces can come into contact with chemicals that can affect the stones or integrity of the piece. Furthermore, swimming in cold environments can cause your finger size to change and rings may become loose and fall off. For more situations we recommend you avoid wearing your jewellery in, please see our care guide here.

Our core pieces predominantly use diamonds, sapphires and spinel. It is important for us to source our stones from Australian mines and Australian stone cutters where possible. Currently our pieces feature small accent diamonds random from 1-2.5mm. As such, these small stones do not qualify for GIA certification. Bespoke and engagement pieces featuring a diamond of 0.5ct and over will come with GIA certification.
